Where to Eat After the 1000 Steps in Ferntree Gully
Just climbed the 1000 Steps? You've earned a proper feed. The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk starts in the Dandenong Ranges National Park at Upper Ferntree Gully, and Shiraaz Indian Restaurant is just around the corner on Burwood Highway. Here's why it's the local pick for a post-walk dinner.

Minutes from the bottom of the steps
The 1000 Steps start from the Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground, right at the edge of Upper Ferntree Gully. Shiraaz is at 4/1206 Burwood Highway, on the corner of Dawson Street, only a few minutes away. It's also handy if you're heading home to Upwey, Tremont, Ferntree Gully or Boronia.
Refuel with protein and carbs
After a steep climb, Indian food hits the spot. Try:
Tandoori chicken or tikka nawabi: lean protein straight from the tandoor
Lamb or chicken biryani: a full meal in one dish
Daal maharaja: hearty lentils, great with rice
Chicken tikka masala or lamb rogan josh with basmati rice and garlic naan
Mixed grill to share if you've walked as a group

We open for dinner every night from 5pm to 10pm, and for lunch on Thursdays from 12pm to 2pm. If you're doing the steps on a weekend afternoon, it's worth booking a table for after, especially for groups.
