Searching for biryani near Boronia? Biryani is one of India's great one-pot dishes: fragrant basmati rice cooked with meat, whole spices and herbs until every grain is full of flavour. At Shiraaz in Upper Ferntree Gully, just up Burwood Highway from Boronia, it's been a menu favourite since 1995.

What is biryani?

Biryani is a layered rice dish that came to India with the Mughal emperors. Rice and marinated meat are cooked together with spices like cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf, so the rice soaks up all the flavour. It's a complete meal on its own, but it also pairs well with a curry or raita.
